Barnard College's Residential Life & Housing team is committed to supporting the college experience of our students as they connect their lives within the classroom to experiences within the Barnard community and New York City as a whole.
Our Resident Assistants (RAs) are students who offer educational, cultural, and social programs to stimulate engage residents outside of their classrooms and foster community within their residence hall. Students are encouraged to consult first with their RA about problems or concerns, (e.g. roommate/suitemate conflicts, noise complaints, and disruptive behavior) before going to their Residence Hall Coordinator, Community Director, or the Senior Associate Director for Res Life.
The Residence Hall Coordinators (RHCs) are graduate students who live in the residence halls and provide supervision for RAs and serve an on-call function for emergencies. The RHCs are supervised by the Community Directors (CDs), who are-full time staff members.
The residential community is overseen by the Senior Associate Director for Residential Life (SAD) and the Associate Director for Residence Life (AD). The ADs oversee all programming and administrative aspects of the residence hall program. In addition, the ADs act as resources, frequently counseling students and/or making referrals to other campus professionals. The Senior AD for Res LIfe supervises the CDs.
Applications, assignments, room changes, billing, and summer housing are coordinated by the Associate Director for Housing Operations.
Residential Life & Housing is led by the Director for Residential Life & Housing. Responsibilities of the Director include coordinating all housing and residential life functions and programs, determining policies and procedures, and supervising all of the Residential Life staff.
Please feel free to contact any of the aforementioned staff members to learn more about Residential Life & Housing or to address any concerns.
